Stories that Bynd Us: Hispanic Heritage Month
What does Hispanic Heritage month mean to you?
As a Colombian living in the US, Hispanic Heritage Month is a great time to acknowledge the diverse
and fascinating cultures of our rich Latin American brethren that makes the United States such a strong and unique country. Hispanic Heritage Month has become a huge celebration in the United States. For more than 40 years, Hispanics across the country commemorate this special month with pride and joy, as well as highlighting the importance of diversity. I believe it is a national celebration to honor the history, culture and influence of past generations that came from our Motherland Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and the Central and South Americas
What does it mean to be part of the Hispanic Community?
I strongly take advantage of this celebration to show the importance of Hispanics in the United States. To do this, I contribute/donate to Hispanic charities, eat latin food from any of the countries being celebrated, learn about their cultures and honor influential Hispanics who have made an impact on our community/society.

What makes you proud to be Hispanic?
As a proud Hispanic, there are several ways to be proud of our Hispanic and Latin American heritage, the simplest thing is to reflect on our culture and traditions, as well as that of our fellow Latin American countries.
Tell us about your Hispanic/Latin background or tell us about your background?
Being Hispanic/Latin means flavor, culture, beaches, the sun, the beauty of nature, the tradition of music, the drums, the typical costumes of my beautiful country. It is seasoning, the warmth that Hispanic/Latin people give you when they receive you.
I grew up in a traditionally Colombian family, which consisted of a family unit not only included parents and children but also extended family, In most of Hispanic families, the father is the head of the family, and the mother is responsible for the home. The family nucleus within a traditional Latin family has a moral responsibility to help others if they suffer health, emotional, financial or other situations. Family ties are very strong.
