Do you support any non-profits?

I am a volunteer at the Red Cross. The Red Cross project that I am part of consists of accompanying the elderly, in my case this means taking a walk every week with a lovely older lady.

The main reason she wanted to be matched with a volunteer is that her eyes are not what they used to be, due to her loss of vision it's not possible for her to go outside on her own.

How long have you been supporting it?

I've been doing this voluntary work at the Red Cross for over 2 years now.

I hope that by doing something like this I can actually contribute to improving someone's life

Who does it benefit?

I think it benefits both me and her. She gets some fresh air and her weekly exercise by going for a walk together, but for me, it's also a moment to slow things down and take a break. Those are the two hours a week in which I cannot rush anything, and I have some time for her and for me. It's so enriching to connect with another generation and I think it really broadens your perspectives on life. She is 95 years old and has lived such a different life than I - or anyone from my generation - can even imagine.

Why is it important for you?

I think it's important because it's my way of trying to contribute to society in some way. I hope that by doing something like this I can actually contribute to improving someone's life, even if it's just a tiny bit, even if it’s just one person. And on top of that, I really enjoy it and I think it only has a positive impact.
